#### Ahoy Townspeople #004

Look who's late to the party! I'm not even fashionably late, just plain late. It's the mayor himself.

#### Findings

- A great [collection](https://imgur.com/gallery/SqIdFwB/comment/1790142179){target="_blank"} of 3D printing tips and tricks.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WP1dqudt4TE?si=ESWmFtmJt85c8Ox0" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The original video was deleted but this one is close enough. Going to download the video and host it myself next time. :^)

#### Miscaellanea

- The [winding scheme calculator](https://www.bavaria-direct.co.za/scheme/calculator/){target="_blank"} I mentioned in a previous post is apparently down. Tried my best to find the author but no luck. There are some saved copies of the page on the Wayback Machine. I'm thinking of reviving it, stay tuned. :^)

- Clock Escapement

Spent some time in integration hell. Tried a bunch of designs, printing a lot of test pieces, no luck. At the end, I just found a [design](https://www.printables.com/model/2363-flying-tourbillon){target="_blank"} and printed it. Works like a charm though runs for only 1 minute. I'll move this project to the back burner for now. Such a fascinating mechanism yet so infuriating to get it right.

- Dyed shirts.

I've been experimenting with dyeing shirts with bleach. I really like the results.

I also shared the stencil files on Printables. Here's the links for [Big Rico's Pizza](https://www.printables.com/model/1057174-welcome-to-night-vale-big-rico-stencil){target="_blank"} and [LotR](https://www.printables.com/model/1059908-lord-of-the-rings-stencil){target="_blank"}.

Planning on making a Dunder Mifflin Inc. shirt next.

- Electric Motor

After the clock escapement fiasco, I wanted to do something *simpler*. Continued developing the electric motor. I also decided to bite the bullet and start printing the damn parts. I relized that the longer I wait, the more I'll overthink the design.

I was worried about the red ABS parts warping but they turned out great! I'll share more details in a separate post. Then decided to not print top and bottom layers altogether for better airflow (?) and this is the current state of the motor.

I was having a hard time with winding the coils. Made a simple jig to help with the winding with some design changes to the coil itself.

Tested the *power* of a single coil, while it's similar to the previous design it can be improved further. I'll share the details in a separate post.

Ah, also... Found a guy who is working on an open source BLDC motor design on one of the 3D printing sites. I was looking for a way to reach him directly, found out his twitter account. Apparently, he's a conspiracy theorist and a neo nazi. There goes my hopes and dreams of collaborating with him. :^)

#### Media

- The 2nd season of Arcane is out, I'm tuning in. :^)
